Some of you may have seen our Give Blood stall on Superhero Saturday at the weekend. If you didn’t get the chance to get information read on for more..
Ever thought about giving blood? Do you want to become a real life superhero?
Some of you who attended our Superhero Saturday on 11th March may have noticed our give blood stall on the day where Denise (member of the sports club) was giving information about becoming a blood donor.
Our day on Saturday was in honour of Amanda Young’s (assistant manager of the club) son Joel young aged 6 who was diagnosed with Leukaemia which is a cancer of the blood.
During treatment for Leukaemia, blood transfusions of red blood cells (which carry oxygen around the body) and platelets (which helps stop bleeding) are required. The exact amount of transfusions will vary for each patient but usually most patients will require a lot. Red blood cells have a shelf life of 35 days but platelets only 5 days. This means a constant blood supply is essential. We would like to support the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service and hopefully get some new blood into our hospitals and help not only Joel, but all other patients who need the blood.
Some of you may have thought about giving blood, give blood already or have done in the past but not for a while. If you would consider becoming a blood donor all the information you need is available don’t be afraid to ask. Visit www.scotblood.co.uk or call direct on 03453 017270.
Also a huge thank you to all members who made it along on Saturday to raise money to support CLIC Sargent and Joel Young. The day was a massive success which I’m sure we can all agree on.
If you would still like to donate something our link is below to take you to our Virgin Money Giving page which will go to CLIC Sargent the charity in which are supporting Joel Young.
Thank you for reading.
