What is so good about Body Pump?

Ever thought about going to a Body Pump class but are not sure what the benefits of the class are? Or perhaps you go regularly but don’t fully know what you are doing to your body? Read on to find out more about why Body Pump is great for us!!

Body Pump is a class that most of us think is ‘girly’ – it’s not!! It’s for all genders and fitness levels. Body Pump is the original barbell workout where you go through a series of sound tracks each that works different muscle groups. The class can range from 30,45 to 60 minutes. In a full 60 minute body pump class the format goes as follows – warm up, squats, chest, back, triceps, biceps, lunges, shoulders, core and finally cool down. As you can see here, you are working all muscle groups in your body.

Body Pump allows us to get all the benefits of resistance training without lifting heavy weights. In Les Mills Body Pump this is effectively called THE REP EFFECT (high reps low weights to fatigue our muscles). In an average class you will push out a huge 800 reps which is 4 times more than you would in a regular gym session alone – this is incredible in just 45/60 minutes!!

The high rep training method produces more protein synthesis in muscles (that’s how we create muscle tone) rather than traditional heavy weight training. Body Pump is the fastest way in the universe to get in and stay in shape.

By the end of the class you will have exhausted every muscle group, pushed your heart into a cardiovascular training zone which means you are burning fat, you have toned and strengthened your muscles and hopefully you have had fun along the way.
